India has thrown open its ports to encourage cruise tourism and passenger traffic into Indian ports. The luxury cruise business is a huge chunk of the travel industry and is fast growing. People now want something more exotic and exciting. Cruise tours across the seven seas are a major attraction worldwide. India wants a piece of this action as a special committee and a task force has been set up by the tourism industry that is looking to expand in this area.
Special rebates and offers have been structured and marketed to offer discounts as much as 30% for cruise liners who park into the major Indian ports. These ports are Cochin, Mumbai, Goa, New Mangalore, Chennai, Vishakhapatnam, Pradeep, Calcutta, Ennore, V.O. Chidambaranar, JNPT and Marumuga.
Apart from the government opening up e-visa facility, 65 additional immigration counters have also been opened up in the major six ports. To this date, seven maiden Indian voyages have been confirmed with the first one on the 22nd of December, 2016.
